What a Team!

What a Team!

Ms Mel Ross in P7A, Miss Claire Phillips in P7B and Mr Forrest Howie in P7C are a talented and experienced team. They are ably assisted by Learning Assistant Miss Liz Swanson.

The pupils have shown they are responsive in rising to the responsibilities of Primary Seven and took part in a P7 Conference in September. The P7 staff will continue to build upon strong relationships and teamwork established at Lagganlia Outdoor Residential Centre.

P7 pupils are easily recognisable in their special blue sweatshirts and we appreciate parental support in this. We discourage the wearing of jeans.

Application forms and interviews were completed for the posts of House and Sports Captain. The successful candidates have their photographs posted outside the Gym Hall.

The children have to work hard to earn their P7 Privilege Passes to allow them early entry to school from 8.40am.

Pupils who show they can follow Sciennes' Golden Rules will keep their Privilege and Meadows Passes and earn Golden Time.

P7 began the year with a study of Rivers and are now well underway in an exciting project with Sciennes' parent and published author Mary Turner Thomson to publish their own book, "Mother Nature's Children". The book launched at a special event on 12th December. Each child received two copies and further copies can be ordered from school. It is also available at Blackwell's bookshop and can be purchased -and reviewed - online at Amazon.

Our P7 Conference took place on Thursday 22nd September with workshops on the themes of citizenship, teamwork, enterprise, health and wellbeing, creativity and sustainability.

Mary Turner Thomson, Sciennes' parent and published author, launched an exciting enterprise project enabling the pupils to publish their very own book.

We warmly welcomed the return of Imagination Workshop who provided an opportunity for the pupils to design their own 'Gym Bag for Life'.

Cat Perry from Dance Division provided dance workshops and Joe from ChangeWorks led an engaging workshop on paper recycling and paper making.

We also launched our Junior Award Scotland Scheme (JASS) for P7 pupils to work towards accreditation for wider achievement in the categories: Me and My Interests; Me and My World; Adventure; Get Active, Stay Active. Completion of each section will result in a certificate, with a Silver award and certificate being given for completing all four sections successfully.

P7A and P7B receive weekly lessons in French and Miss Phillips continues to teach German with P7B.

Monday 10th October to Friday 14th October P7 brought a highly successful residential trip to Lagganlia Outdoor Education Centre where pupils were a credit to their families, the school and themselves. All who participated have achieved the Adventure Junior Award Scotland (JASS) certificate, one quarter of the way towards achieving the full Silver award.

P7s undertook a Risk to Health project and visited the Risk Factory. They received talks in school from drugs education, road safety and fire prevention officers.

In January P7 held their own Burns Supper in the Dining Hall with ceilidh dancing in the main hall afterwards. Thank you to Mrs Maguire for ordering the haggis, neeps and tatties from MacSween's.

P7 have now begun their study of World War Two.
